They say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice. When it comes to the music of Nigeria’s newest singer Helen9th, the saying is spot on as her music is best described as ear candy. Helen9th whose real names are Helen started singing professionally in 2009 and delivered her first audio in 2011 with ‘SUN MOMI. She followed it up with the patois-driven pop single ‘BAD MAN’. “I try to dabble a lot and ‘BAD MAN’ is just an example of how versatile I am’ explains Helen9th on how flexible she is when it comes to writing songs.
Her big break came in 2013 after her feature with BIGGIE BROWN’s hit single ‘INTENTIONALLY’ a remix of P square personally. The remix was impressive enough to put her on the map. Helen9th quickly followed it up with this hot single ‘Story’ produce by phenomenon. This single got her on the pop charts and landed her many gigs within the country.
Helen9th is not letting early success get to her as she acknowledges that she still has a lot of work to do. “Any establishment takes time to be fully grounded. It’s gradually coming together although I must say that it’s a really tough trying to break into the industry as a female singer” she says. She not dropping an album yet but expect more singles till your ears are clogged with sugar and dripping with honey. Get ready for some sweet loving.
